But did you know that when they run, they often see better far away than up close?!<br /><br />- The Greyhound is the fastest of the sighthound family. Greyhounds, can run at speeds up to 40+ mph (64 km/h). They are often lovingly referred to as "40mph couch potatoes" as they are often found lounging around the house.<br /><br />- Greyhounds are thought to be the oldest of all the sighthound breeds; though the Afghan Hound and Saluki are not far behind.<br /><br />- The Whippet gets its name from an old expression "whip it" meaning to move quickly. Whippets are very similar to Greyhounds only smaller; the breed is thought to have come from cross breeding the Greyhound, Italian greyhound and Terrier. They were once referred to as "The Poor Mans Greyhound".<br /><br />- The Italian Greyhound is the smallest of the sighthound family. They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."<br /><br />Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," But I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," And in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.<br /><br />If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."
